Vulcan to the Sky

Ten years ago, a group of enthusiastic professionals decided to reach for the skies and formed the Vulcan to the Sky Trust with the aim of restoring an AVRO Vulcan bomber to its former flying glory. The Vulcan in question is XH558, the only aircraft of the original 135 built in a condition suitable for restoration, due to the circumstances in which it had been kept since its retirement from the RAF in 1993.

The Vulcan to the Sky Trust, a registered charity, now needs to continue to raise substantial funds to realise its aims:

Completing the restoration of the Vulcan, returning her to full flying condition for the benefit of the public

Demonstrating the aircraft at public events for the next 10-15 years, as an example of the heights engineering can reach

Conserving her as a heritage asset in perpetuity, at a National Aviation Museum

Funding a mobile exhibition covering the Cold War era, now part of the National Curriculum, which will visit the widest possible audience around the country, inspiring young people to learn and to enjoy learning

Thanks to massive public support, and a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, restoration is nearly complete and it is hoped that AVRO Vulcan XH558 will make her debut public appearance with the Red Arrows in a flypast down The Mall on 17th June during the 25th Anniversary Commemoration of the Falklands Campaign.

But this deadline can only be met if the Vulcan to the Sky Trust continues to raise funds from public pledges and corporate sponsorship.
