About SAMA82
The South Atlantic Medal Association (1982) was founded on 2 April 1997, exactly 15 years after the invasion of the Falkland Islands.
The South Atlantic Medal was received by all who participated in operations in the South Atlantic, or their next-of-kin. Nearly 30,000 of these medals were awarded. 255 British lives were lost.
SAMA’s aims are:
•To re-establish and strengthen links with the people of the Falkland Islands.
•To maintain and promote a sense of pride and comradeship amongst the veterans of the South Atlantic campaign.
•To keep veterans in touch with each other, whilst respecting individual requirements and preferences.
•To liaise with other organisations, ensuring due consideration is given to veterans of the South Atlantic.
•To investigate cases of hardship or distress seeking financial assistance.
